What's in Our Candles?

Not All Candles Are The Same!

Kate Walsh

Founder of Peripeti Candles, creator of natural home fragrance

At this point you've probably heard how toxic many commercial home fragrance products can be for you + your home. But that's only half the battle. Next you have to know what you DO want in your home fragrance!

First, a very important industry secret. To put "Soy Candle" on your label you only have to be 51% soy! This is and FDA rule similar to labeling food. (the majority ingredient is listed first). This is also incredibly important to be aware of as a consumer + this might explain why you think you find a "cheap" soy candle only to get it home + find it's not quite like others you've burned or if it's your first one you don't see what all they hype is about...

So how do you know for sure? A couple tips: first, soy IS NOT greasy! if your candles are leaving a greasy film on your walls, ceiling or hands then IT IS NOT SOY! Soy should wash easily with soap + water

Second, soy burns for a long time! Soy itself will burn longer but combined with pure fragrances (like ours!) it's not uncommon to get 8-10 hours per ounce

Pricing is a good indicator as to how much soy is in a candle. Typically, from what I have seen, for an average size 8+ ounce regular candle you aren't going to pay less than $20-$23, maybe occasionally you will see $18-$19 but then there might be some differences with the fragrance purity. This isn't a full proof system by any means but it can be a good indicator. The reason is, pure soy wax that is sustainably sourced is going to cost a lot more than paraffin or palm wax which is what it would most likely be blended with. It's often 3-5% higher in cost, sometimes even more for a small business.

Unfortunately,

due to weak regulations on this sort of product, I can't give you a full proof answer.

One of the things I do when I'm trying to make sure I'm getting the best product is I get to know the maker/producer.

What I Can Do

is let you know what is different about Peripeti Candles

I wanted to create a home fragrance line that offered you an easy way to bring good things into your home. To achieve this I select only the highest quality ingredients + eliminated common industry shortcuts to offer you the best products at the best prices I can.

The soy we use at Peripeti Candles is approved by ASA (American Soy Association) which means it meets sustainability standards. This also means our all-natural soy wax comes from a conglomerate of mid-west soy farms in the USA and isn't imported.

We do not put any additives into our Soy Wax at Peripeti Candles

Soy Wax is made by hydrogenating soy bean oil so it is all-natural and burns clean unlike paraffin wax + other cheaper alternatives. The benefits of soy don't stop there! Not only is it healthier for you it actually burns longer too!

The most commonly used wax is paraffin which, like we said, is a bi-product of petroleum. This means you are pretty much burning oil sludge in your home. Oil burns but it burns hot and it burns fast!

Soy burns much cooler because it is natural + plant based. Our candles are even Vegan! We also combine our natural wax with high-quality fragrances so we get extremely high burn times. Our standard candle burns about 80 hours!

So what you get from Peripeti Candles is a superior product that is clean burning, non-toxic + offers long burn times. All of this from a company that is devoted to sustainability + giving you the most current trends + innovations in the home fragrance industry.

We hope this helps clear up some Soy Candle myths + makes it easier for you to raise the standard of what you bring into your home.

We seek to offer you the best ingredients at the best prices we can!

We want to be transparent with what we put into our products, our processes + our goals as a business to raise the standard of what we bring into our homes!

I make these candles in my home workshop, so besides offering you the best, it is important that I am working with clean ingredients all day long!
